The Olympic Charter states that one of the goals of the Olympic Movement is to “contribute to building a peaceful and better world by educating youth through sport practiced without discrimination of any kind and in the Olympic spirit”.

The National Olympic Academy of Barbados, launched at the Frank Collymore Hall on March 22 2005, is the educational arm of the Barbados Olympic Association Inc.

The Mission of the National Olympic Academy is to promote the ideals of Olympism and Fair Play through educational and cultural activities targetting a wide cross-section of the Barbados public.

This is achieved through a range of programs and activities which target all sectors of the Barbadian public, especially the primary and secondary school children.

The National Olympic Academy schedules tours of the Olympic Museum, where school children are able to interact with displays and exhibits, and appreciate our sporting achievements over the years. The exhibits showcase our participation at the Olympic, Pan American, Commonwealth and Central American and Caribbean Games.

While emphasizing excellence, friendship, fair play and respect as the important values of the Olympic movement, the National Olympic Academy also realizes the importance that education plays in the overall development of the national sport product. As a result the NOA has launched a series of educational programs aimed at lifting the knowledge base among our athletes, coaches, administrators, and National Federations.

Among the range of educational programs offered to the sporting public are The Caribbean Coaching Certification Program Coach Theory Course, First Aid and CPR, Sport Specific Technical Courses for Coaches, Basic Sport Administration, and the Advanced Sport Management Program.

Course participants are encouraged to make use of our Library and Resource Centre for their benefit, and to take advantage of the range of publications, periodicals and magazines.

The National Olympic Academy also hosts special events on an ongoing basis, among these being Beach Clean up activities, Health Fairs, and special topic workshops and seminars for the general public. These variety in programs and activities ensures that the Olympic Academy touches everyone at every level. We look forward to meeting you at our next activity!
