Having worked in an administrative capacity for various sporting organisations, Shelley-Ann, an accountant by profession, joined the Board of Directors of the Barbados Olympic Association Inc. in September 2019 after being elected as a Director at its Annual General Meeting.
Professionally, over the years, Shelley-Ann worked in Canada and Barbados providing audit and accounting services in public accounting firms and then in the private sector in a number of industries ranging from mining and manufacturing to ship building, hospitality and sporting organisations.
Shelley-Ann’s passion for sports administration was kindled in her pre-teen years when, through the officials of the then Athletics Association of Barbados, she participated in fund-raising events and volunteered to work at competitions like the CARIFTA Games. As an adult, through the sporting endeavours of family and friends and the practice of tai chi, she has been involved in the administration of schools, clubs and associations for cricket, taekwondo, football, chess and weightlifting at various levels.
Shelley-Ann has travelled with junior taekwondo teams as well as managed football teams and national weightlifting teams traveling to international competitions. Shelley-Ann is also the event manager for the highly successful Phillips & Springer Classic weightlifting competition which completed its 4th year in 2019 as part of the B.i.i.G. Games.
Shelley-Ann believes that Barbados has untapped capabilities in sport from grassroots to elite, in traditional and not so traditional sports, for not only the athletes but also the coaches, technical and administrative officials. Her goal is to use her professional and administrative skills to assist the Barbados Olympic Association and national federations in harnessing those capabilities through practical and hands-on execution of development initiatives tailored to the needs of the respective sport.
Shelley-Ann obtained the Barbados Olympic Association’s Basic Sports Administration certification and currently sits on Boards of four regional/external companies. In April 2020, Shelley-Ann was appointed to the Member Governance Review Commission of the Pan American Weightlifting Federation.
