Barbados Olympic Association Inc. Announces Applications Open for PAISAC

The Barbados Olympic Association Inc. (BOA) has announced the opening of applications for the 44th International Support Program for African and Caribbean Sport (PAISAC) Classical Training Program. The BOA will select one candidate to be recommended for an Olympic Scholarship to pursue the course.

PAISAC aims to offer coaches access to top-quality training resources, knowledge, and experience, which they can then apply in their respective national sports organizations. The training is multifaceted and covers theoretical concepts across various sports, equipping coaches with the necessary tools to plan and execute effective training programmes for their athletes.

The programme consists of two phases: distance learning and in-person training. The distance learning phase will be conducted from November 18 to December 13, 2024, with classes held on weekdays, approximately 3-5 hours per day, from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm (Montreal time, Canada). Attendance at all classes is mandatory, and a computer with a camera for following the course, downloading documents, and writing assignments is required. Access to a high-speed internet connection is also necessary. The in-person training phase will take place in Montreal from May 17 to June 6, 2025.

According to the Director of the National Olympic Academy, Vaneisha Cadogan, candidates who wish to apply for the Olympic Solidarity scholarship to pursue the PAISAC training must be active coaches. Furthermore, she said they must be fully dedicated to returning to their respective sport and making a significant and lasting contribution to the Olympic movement by utilizing the knowledge and experience gained from the training.

Ms. Cadogan added, “We strongly believe that investing in coaches is not only an investment in the present, but also in the future of sports. Coaches play a vital role in determining the outcomes for aspiring athletes, and it is our mission to ensure that they have the resources they need to succeed. We are proud to recommend a deserving local coach who demonstrates a commitment to their craft and a dedication to the development of young athletes for this OS scholarship, and we are excited to see the positive impact that the scholarship recipient will make in their communities and beyond.”

Prospective applicants are required to provide the following documents as part of their application: a cover letter that clearly outlines their objectives and expectations, a curriculum vitae that provides detailed information about their athletic background and coaching experience, a copy of their national ID card, and a letter of support from their National Federation. Please ensure that all required documents are submitted, as incomplete applications will not be considered.

Applications should be submitted no later than Friday, 26 April 2024, to the Director, National Olympic Academy at vdcadogan@olympic.org.bb and copied to info@olympic.org.bb. Candidates should be prepared to attend an interview on a date to be announced.
