The city of Rio de Janeiro has been elected host city of the XXXI Olympic Summer Games in 2016.
The announcement to award the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games to the city of Rio de Janeiro was made by the IOC President Jacques Rogge, on 2nd October 2009 in Copenhagen.
Plans and preparations are underway and athletes from across the world, including Barbados, are preparing to travel to Brazil.
