Rugby Charity Dinner to support Bajan youth

Rugby Barbados World 7s (RBW7s) is set to host its inaugural Charity Dinner next month to raise funds for the Barbados chapter of the global Get Into Rugby Programme, Try Rugby Barbados, a registered not-for-profit company. The dinner, a first of its kind for Rugby Barbados, will be held at the Radisson Aquatica Resort Barbados on Thursday 7 December, with a minimum donation of US $100 to Try Rugby Barbados requested.

Donors and other invitees will enjoy a pre-dinner cocktail reception at the Radisson Pier, a delicious three-course meal, and a motivational speech by world-renowned Welsh rugby player Shane Williams MBE.

George Nicholson, Manager of the Local Organising Committee for the Rugby Barbados World 7s, has put the call out to all Bajans and visitors alike to dig deep and support local rugby through making a donation to this new initiative. “By making a donation through our Charity Dinner, not only will you enjoy a great night out, but you’ll also be helping to expand Barbados’ Get Into Rugby Programme and make a real difference for our nation’s youth. The Programme works tirelessly to reach out to local children and introduces over 1000 Barbadian kids each year to rugby as a gateway for positive social development, so it’s most certainly a worthy cause,” he says. “We are thrilled to be hosting this event for the very first time, and with some wonderful supporters already on board, we hope it continues to grow from strength to strength every year.”

The Charity Dinner is just one of a series of events Rugby Barbados is hosting over the next couple of months. Rugby Barbados World 7s also recently announced a new radio campaign in collaboration with JetBlue Vacations and the stations of Power Broadcasting (Y103.3FM and Slam 101.1FM), giving away two flight vouchers from Barbados to any destination JetBlue travels to in order to promote the upcoming Rugby Barbados World 7s Tournament in December.

Another exciting event for rugby, the 2017 Rugby Barbados World 7s Tournament is set to be held from 9-10 December in Trents, St. James and will feature some of the best men’s and women’s club teams from across the globe. Teams from Canada, USA, Scotland, England, Trinidad and Tobago, St. Lucia and Guadeloupe have already indicated their intention to participate in this year’s Tournament, with US $3000 prize money up for grabs in both the men’s and women’s divisions.

Donations to Try Rugby Barbados can be made through the Barbados Rugby Football Union, and donors may contact George Nicholson (+1 246) 233-1945 or Brian Stollmeyer at (+ 1 868) 680-4757 for their personalised invitations to the Charity Dinner.
