Local coaches seeking to hone their skills are being encouraged to apply for the upcoming International Coaching Course (ICC) scheduled for Budapest, Hungary, from April 1 to May 31, 2024.
The Barbados Olympic Association Inc. (BOA) will recommend one successful applicant for an Olympic Solidarity (OS) Scholarship to pursue the non-degree course, which is organised by the Hungarian University of Sports Science (HUSS), International Relations Centre in cooperation with the International Olympic Committee and supported by OS. The ICC is a programme that is designed to train and educate coaches from all around the world. This intermediate-level course is intensive and aims to promote coaching excellence. It provides coaches with a structured approach to enhancing their theoretical, technical, and practical coaching skills and knowledge.
During the course, participants will study 13 theoretical subjects, including Biomechanics, Exercise Physiology, Sport Analytics, Sport Pedagogy, Sport Psychology and Sport Management. Additionally, they will participate in practical coaching work in the leading Hungarian sports clubs. Coaches who participate in the programme will be tested on both theoretical and practical aspects of their respective sports. The sports and disciplines to be offered are Artistic Gymnastics for Men (MAG) and Women (WAG), Basketball, Fencing, Football, General Conditioning, Handball, Judo, Swimming, Tennis, Volleyball, Water Polo, and Wrestling.
To be eligible for an Olympic Solidarity scholarship, the applicant must be a member of a National Federation affiliated with one of the core sports listed. Applicants are required to provide proof of their coaching experience in the relevant sport and must still be actively involved in coaching. Additionally, they must show a strong commitment to making a meaningful and sustainable contribution to their sport and the Olympic Movement by applying the knowledge and experience gained from the programme.
Interested coaches should submit their applications no later than Thursday, February 29, 2024, to the Director, National Olympic Academy, at vdcadogan@olympic.org.bb and copied to info@olympic.org.bb. Applications should comprise a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a copy of the applicant’s national ID card and a recent health certificate as evidence of good health and physical fitness to participate in practical classes. Applicants must also provide a letter of support from their respective National Federations. The letter should explain why the coach is being recommended for the scholarship and describe how their participation in the programme will benefit the sport. Applicants will be asked to attend an interview on a date to be announced.
