The National Olympic Academy this year has embarked on a program to spread the Olympic values to primary schools through a number of talks and tours of the Museum at the Olympic Centre in Wildey. The Academy also launched an art competition this year which is currently running in the primary schools.

Assistant to the Director of the Academy Ryan Brathwaite, who was also Barbados’ Youth Ambassador to the Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing China, recently visited the Gordon Walters Primary Schools to spread the Olympic message and encourage children to be active.

Brathwaite told the 32 boys and girls that sports was very important to their development, and they should participate in any form that they could. “ The Olympic values are Friendship, Respect and Excellence and these are transferrable to every area in life. To excel in everything you do then you should strive to live by these values” Brathwaite said.

Each of the students received a pencil case inscribed with the Olympic values. The Academy has a full program of activities planned for the year including Olympic Day in June.
