The Barbados Olympic Association Inc. (BOA) is pleased to announce the call for applications for the upcoming Executive Masters in Sport Organisations Management (MEMOS XXVII).
The BOA will select and recommend one successful applicant for an Olympic Solidarity Scholarship to pursue the programme, which runs from August 2024 to September 2025.
MEMOS offers an intense and comprehensive curriculum that helps candidates to acquire the knowledge and skill set required to excel in the management of sporting organisations. The programme consists of four in-person educational and training sessions as well as online asynchronous activities. During the programme, participants will learn about various topics, including strategic management, financial management, leadership and human resource management, and marketing for Olympic sports organizations.
One of the primary components of the course involves the creation of a project that focuses on the management and enhancement of a particular aspect of the student’s sports environment. As the project should address the current challenges faced by the sport, individuals who are interested in pursuing the course should have a discussion with their respective National Federation to identify a suitable MEMOS project before applying.
The National Olympic Academy Director, Vaneisha Cadogan, explained that the MEMOS programme is designed for individuals who are currently contributing to the work of a National Federation, possess considerable experience in managing a sports organization, and hold a relevant university degree. She noted that if an individual does not possess a university degree but has comparable professional experience, they can still apply for the programme, and the MEMOS selection committee will evaluate such applications on a case-by-case basis.
Ms Cadogan said that empowering local sports professionals through advanced education is a key priority for the BOA, adding, “We are therefore delighted to offer motivated candidates the opportunity to be awarded an OS scholarship to enhance their skills and drive positive change within their organizations and the wider Olympic Movement.”
Applications should be sent to the Director, National Olympic Academy at vdcadogan@olympic.org.bb and copied to info@olympic.org.bb by Friday, May 10, 2024. Applicants should be prepared to attend an interview on Wednesday, May 15, 2024.
