The Barbados Olympic Association Inc. (BOA) has officially unveiled the first tranche of athletes who will represent Barbados at the 2026 Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, from July 24 to August 8.
The announcement marks the start of the BOA’s official introduction of Team Barbados, one of the country’s largest delegations to the CAC Games, with more than 140 athletes set to compete in 21 sports.
President of the Barbados Olympic Association, Sandra Osborne, said, “The Central American and Caribbean Games are a celebration of excellence, perseverance and regional unity. Representing Barbados at these Games is often an athlete’s first opportunity to compete for Barbados at regional multi-sport Games, while there are many others who are seasoned competitors at this level, so we felt it was important to introduce Team Barbados in stages, allowing each athlete and each sport to receive the recognition they have earned. We invite all Barbadians to join us in celebrating and supporting these outstanding ambassadors as they prepare to compete for our nation.”
The first tranche of Team Barbados comprises the 35 athletes competing in the following sports: Badminton, Boxing, Chess, Cycling, Golf, Rugby, Tennis, and Triathlon. Among them are 2024 Olympian and 2023 CAC bronze medallist Matthew Wright; 2023 CAC bronze medallist Jabali Breedy; badminton champion Kennie King; cycling champion Amber Joseph; and 2023 Central American and Caribbean Youth Championships gold medallist Hannah Wilson.
Chef de Mission Dr. Adrian Lorde noted that the announcement marks the beginning of an exciting journey for Team Barbados.
“Behind every team announcement is a story of commitment, sacrifice and resilience. The athletes named today have dedicated countless hours to reaching this point, and they have earned the honour of representing Barbados through their performances and unwavering commitment to their sport. While today is a moment to celebrate, our focus remains firmly on the work ahead. We are committed to ensuring our athletes are fully prepared to perform at their best, and I have every confidence they will represent Barbados with professionalism, determination and pride throughout the Games,” Dr. Lorde stated.
