Barbados Olympic Association Empowers Coaches with Critical Mental Health Training

Recognising that mental health is as vital as physical conditioning, the Barbados Olympic Association Inc. (BOA) is taking a proactive step to support the local sporting community by hosting a specialised ‘Coaches Community of Learning’ session focused on mental health integration.

The interactive session, titled “Incorporating Mental Health Training into Coaching Programmes,” will take place on Saturday, July 18, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Barbados Olympic Centre in Wildey, St. Michael.

The workshop will be facilitated by mental health consultant Dr. Janelle Chase-Mayers, who brings more than a decade of experience working with high-performance athletes.

Mental health remains a critical component of athlete development and holistic performance. Throughout the session, Dr. Chase-Mayers will provide coaches with practical strategies to integrate mental health awareness and support into their daily coaching environments, ultimately improving athlete well-being and long-term development.

This initiative represents the BOA’s broader commitment to elevating coaching standards and fostering a more supportive sporting culture in Barbados. As such, the BOA invites all coaches to join this vital conversation and contribute to the ongoing professional growth of our coaching community.

Spaces are limited. Interested coaches are therefore encouraged to reserve their place by emailing the Director of the National Olympic Academy, Janelle Denny, at janelle.denny@olympic.org.bb, or the Programme Officer, Ida Elms-Edghill, at Ida.Elms-Edghill@olympic.org.bb, no later than Wednesday, July 15, 2026.
