The New Carports at the BOA Headquarters
This National Olympic Committee continued with its Sport and the Environment philosophy with the installation of a solar carport. This carport boasts some 52 solar panels and allows for 10 shaded spots. The 15-kilowatt system will provide the Association with savings in excess of BDS$11,000 annually and will avoid approximately 20 barrels of oil having to be imported annually. This equates to over 6 tonnes of Co2 emissions every year.
When this project was presented to the IOC President, Dr. Thomas Bach, by President Steve Stoute and Secretary General Erskine Simmons, during a meeting in Lausanne, President Bach agreed to contribute approximately 90% of the cost of this project from his special fund, at the same time lauding the BOA for it’s continued green initiatives.
