BOA Pays Tribute to Beloved Squash Administrator Monty Cumberbatch

The Barbados Olympic Association Inc. (BOA) mourns the loss of William ‘Monty’ Cumberbatch, a stalwart in squash, nationally and regionally, who passed away on November 16, 2024.

Monty, a former national player and former president of the Barbados Squash Association, was a vital contributor to Barbadian squash for 30 years, both as a player and administrator. His steadfast commitment to developing talent was evident as he adeptly managed numerous junior and senior teams, most recently leading the squad at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, UK. His passion for squash also drove him to tirelessly promote the sport in Barbados, enhancing awareness and encouraging participation.

This dedication extended beyond his professional life, as his influence profoundly shaped his family’s legacy in squash, as all four of his sons have proudly served on the national junior and senior squash teams on multiple occasions. Respected as an administrator in both Barbadian and Caribbean squash, Monty’s passing leaves a considerable void in the region, yet he leaves behind a legacy that will be cherished by many.

The President and members of the BOA’s Executive Board express their deepest condolences to his wife, Sherry, and sons Gavin, Rhett, Bryant, and Khamal, as well as to the Barbados Squash Association.
