It was with much sadness that we learned of the passing of veteran sports journalist and administrator, Sam Wilkinson.
Mr. Wilkinson joined our team as Public Relations Officer in September 2001 and his initial assignment was to attend a media forum hosted by the United States Olympic Committee in Colorado Springs. On his return, Mr. Wilkinson used his unique and effervescent public relations skills to enhance the image of our organization. He implemented a number of innovative programmes which improved the profile of this National Olympic Committee and the athletes who were travelling to various Games under our umbrella.
He was the Assistant Chef de Mission at the 2006 Central American and Caribbean Games in Cartagena, Colombia, based in the satellite Games Village in Barranquilla. Those Games have been our most successful CAC Games to date.
Prior to his joining us as Public Relations Officer and Executive Board Member, Sam Wilkinson played a role in promoting the Olympic Movement through his very popular morning programme “7-Up Sam”. Members of our team were frequent guests on this programme which was extremely popular.
Sam Wilkinson made an indelible mark on the sporting landscape of Barbados. He will be sorely missed. The President and members of the BOA Executive Board extend sincere condolences to the members of his family and his many friends.
