Coach King Completes MEMOS with Distinction

Physical education teacher and coach Jesse King has achieved a Distinction in the prestigious Executive Masters in Sports Organisation Management (MEMOS XXVI) programme.

King’s journey on the MEMOS XXVI programme began on August 15, 2023, with the full support of the Barbados Olympic Association (BOA) Inc., which recommended him for an Olympic Solidarity Scholarship. This annual programme is designed to assist professionals like King in their roles within national or international sports organisations. The programme’s specific goal is to help these professionals develop the knowledge, skills, and competencies required to manage their respective organisations effectively and efficiently.

The course consisted of four face-to-face education and training sessions combined with online asynchronous activities. The first session was held in Switzerland, while participants journeyed to Argentina, Liechtenstein, and Greece for the second, third and fourth sessions, respectively. Through a comprehensive curriculum, participants covered topics such as Strategic Management and Governance, Leadership and Human Resource Management, Olympic Sport Organisation Marketing, Financial Management, as well as Project and Event Management.

The research project module culminated in the fourth session, where participants presented their projects to a jury comprising professors from participating institutions. King, the sixth Barbadian chosen to undertake the MEMOS programme, successfully defended his project entitled “Internal Strategic Framework and Pathway for Developing & Emerging Countries in Sport: The Creation of a Localized Elite Sportsperson in Barbados.”

King, the founder of the Talons Track and Field Club, is now among the more than 800 MEMOS programme graduates. The BOA extends heartfelt congratulations to Coach King on his exceptional achievement and wishes him continued success.
