The Barbados Olympic Association Inc. (BOA) is pleased to introduce the 2024-2025 Board of the Barbados Athletes’ Commission, with former national rugby player Kevyn Murrell serving as its new Chair.
The Commission serves as a vital platform for all elite athletes who have proudly represented Barbados at international multi-sport events, such as the Olympics, Commonwealth Games, Pan American Games, and the Central American and Caribbean Games.
Mr. Murrell, who has been passionately involved in Barbados’ sporting community for several years, especially in rugby, will lead the Commission in its mission to amplify athletes’ voices within the BOA and across the nation. He will be joined by former chair Shawn Simpson (Squash), Sabrina Scott (Badminton), Chioke Holder (Volleyball/Taekwondo), Matthew Wright OLY (Triathlon), Alex Sobers OLY (Swimming), and Fabian Norgrove (Track & Field). The elections took place on August 26, 2024.
As an educator and mentor, Mr. Murrell has not only served as a Physical Education teacher for 11 years but also currently holds the role of a World Rugby Coach and Referee Educator. Sharing his enthusiasm about the new position, he stated, “I’m excited to have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact, enhance the Commission’s visibility and public understanding of its purpose, and foster greater interest from athletes at all levels in our activities. Overall, my vision is to see Team246 more united, with athletes supporting each other across disciplines.”
The new Board is committed to championing athletes’ interests both on and off the field, engaging national athletes in initiatives to support their growth, and providing valuable advice to the BOA’s Board of Directors on matters affecting athletes.
