The Barbados Olympic Association Inc. (BOA) is inviting members of National Federations (NFs) and other interested individuals to participate in its 2024 TAFISA World Walking Day celebrations. This year’s activity will be a Coastal Sunrise Hike on Sunday, October 6, 2024, starting at 6:30 a.m. The hike, held under th e theme “Let’s Rep with Pride,” promises to be a fun-filled event that highlights and celebrates Barbados’ sporting successes across all the NFs.
Participants will embark on a looped route beginning and ending at Bath, St. John. Transportation will be provided for a limited number of participants, departing from the Barbados Olympic Centre at 5:45 a.m. sharp. To secure a seat, interested persons must contact Ida Elms-Edghill, National Olympic Academy (NOA) Intern, at 429-1998, Ext. 116, no later than Monday, September 30, 2024. Participants who are travelling directly to the starting point should arrive no later than 6:20 a.m.
The Director of the NOA, Janelle Denny, is inviting sports and hiking enthusiasts to join the BOA in passing the baton for World Walking Day, symbolising a commitment to Sport for All. She said that to honour the theme, all are encouraged to proudly wear their national colours for the hike.
She said, “This October 6 is the perfect opportunity to get active and promote the notion of Sport for All while enjoying the scenic views of our island’s East Coast. At the end of the hike, a light breakfast will be provided, and we are encouraging all National Federations to spread the word and join us for what promises to be an uplifting and memorable celebration of fitness, national pride, and sporting unity.”
