The Barbados Olympic Association, Inc. extends sincere condolences to the family of the late Fékrou Kidané who died on Monday, October 10th. Mr. Kidané, a former IOC Director of the Executive Office of the President, was a great friend to Barbados and assisted this NOC with many developmental programmes of the BOA.
During his time at the IOC, Mr. Kidané launched numerous projects, in particular with the United Nations, especially with the Olympic Truce, the environment and the promotion of women in sport.
Born in Ethiopia, he worked for organizations like the Ethiopian Olympic Committee, where he was the first Secretary General.
He made numerous visits to Barbados and on the last occasion, was coordinator of an IOC Media Seminar which attracted journalists from throughout the region.
Sir Austin Sealy, IOC Honorary Member and a Past President of the BOA, lauded Kidané’s contribution to the Olympic Movement and the role he played in assisting the development and advancement of the BOA.
Mr. Kidané died in Paris, France where he resided for many years. May he Rest in Peace.
