Mr. Cameron Burke is the Vice President of The Barbados Olympic Association Inc. being elected to this position in 2020. He was previously the Assistant Secretary General of the BOA after being elected to this position in 2004. Mr. Burke was first elected to the Executive Committee of the Association in 1996 as a Director.
Before joining the BOA, Mr. Burke served as Honorary Secretary of the Barbados Hockey Federation for fourteen consecutive years, relinquishing that position in 2004 on his election to his current position with the BOA. The Assistant Secretary General is well known for his contribution to the development of hockey both locally and internationally. He was an international umpire during the period 1982 – 2002 before retiring as a Grade 1 international umpire at the 2002 Commonwealth Games, held in Manchester, England. Since his retirement, Mr. Burke continued to be involved with the sport as a Technical Official, serving as Judge, Technical Officer and Technical Director at many CAC and Pan Am Games and similarly at PAHF and FIH tournaments. In 2019, Mr. Burke retired with the notation of Elite International Technical Official. He is now in his second four year term as a member of the Appointments Committee of the Pan American Hockey Federation. Mr. Burke has recently been recommended for training to become an FIH Educator for the FIH Academy.
At the Barbados Olympic Association, Mr. Burke is an integral member of the Executive Committee, and is well versed in the operations of the Olympic Solidarity Commission of the International Olympic Committee. He is the current Chairman of the BOA’s Allocations and Funding Commission, which manages the distribution of all local and international funding to athletes and technical assistance to the local National Federations. Mr. Burke, is an experienced Chef de Mission and continues to serve the Barbados Olympic Association in this position in all major Games since 2002.
Professionally, Mr. Burke is a retired Meteorologist, having worked for 42 years with the Government Meteorological Department at the Grantley Adams International Airport.
