Janelle Denny

Janelle Denny boasts a distinguished career spanning over two decades as an educator and sports administrator. She holds a Master of Education in Physical Education from Alabama A&M University and has earned numerous certifications in coaching and sports management, reflecting her deep commitment to personal and professional growth.

Denny’s career in education is marked by her impactful tenure as a Peripatetic Teacher for Physical Education and Sport at the Ministry of Educational Transformation, formerly known as the Ministry of Education, Technological & Vocational Training. She also played a pivotal role in overseeing the development, execution, and monitoring of the CSEC and CAPE syllabi and examinations. Her dedication to excellence in education has left an indelible mark on students and colleagues alike.

Beyond her teaching endeavors, Denny is a passionate coach and an enthusiastic advocate for sports administration and management. Her leadership roles include serving as the Public Relations Officer for the Barbados Netball Association and being a member of the Executive for the Barbados Badminton Association. Notably, she managed the Barbados Badminton Team at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, demonstrating her ability to represent her country with pride and professionalism.

Denny’s devotion to grassroots development is showcased through her longstanding involvement with the National Primary Schools’ Athletic Championships (NAPSAC). Over the course of more than a decade, she contributed in various capacities, including as Chairman and Championship Director, fostering the development of young athletes at the foundational level.

Her contributions extend further, with her volunteering efforts encompassing service on several sport-related committees and boards. These include the Pan Am Sports Organization/Olympic Solidarity (PASO/OS) and the Barbados Olympic Association’s (BOA) Education and Awards and Special Events Commissions. Recently, Denny was appointed to the prestigious Barbados Anti-Doping Appeals Panel, highlighting her dedication to upholding integrity in sports.

As a well-rounded individual, Denny’s passion for sports is not limited to her professional roles. She is also a former athlete, having participated in various sports such as lawn tennis, basketball, track and field, netball, and badminton at the school and club levels. This personal experience enriches her understanding and advocacy for sports at all levels.

She continues to inspire others with her unwavering dedication to education, sports, and the development of the next generation. Her multifaceted contributions stand as a testament to her drive, talent, and commitment to fostering excellence and integrity within her community.
