Ralph Johnson has been a member of the National Olympic Committee Board since 1986. He first joined as a Director and then in 1992 was elected Vice President, a position he still holds.
Mr. Johnson was one of the primary architects in the establishment of a lottery for sports organizations and today it is this lottery that provides the funding to sustain the Barbados Olympic Association Inc. in its day to day operations. In his capacity as Chair of the Allocations Committee he plays an active role in interfacing with National Federations, reviewing various projects and programmes as this Committee recommends the disbursement of funds for these initiatives.
Mr. Johnson was a former President of the Barbados Yachting Association, the Barbados Squash Rackets Association, the Caribbean Area Squash Rackets Association and the Caribbean Yachting Association. In his wide and varied sporting career he has played basketball, football, water polo, and squash, he has participated in motor sport, and water skiing, and also represented Barbados in boxing.
He is now an avid golfer and still continues to take part in sailing with much success. In business life, he is the Chairman and CEO of the Harris Group of Companies and Paul’s Enterprises Limited, operators of restaurants and entertainment centres.
