ABOUT WEIGHTLIFTING

Barbados Amateur Weightlifting Association (BAWA) was spearheaded by Mr. Hal Springer and actively came into being in 1988. Barbados is the only English-speaking Caribbean country to actively take part in international competitions.

There are currently 15 lifters training at the Stadium. The 50th Independence Weightlifting Championships will be the first Competition for the sport of Weightlifting held in Barbados in over 44 years. The event will come off at the Queen’s Park Steel Shed on November 27, 2016, starting at 2 p.m.
