The King’s Baton Relay will take place in Barbados on Monday, March 31, 2025, and excitement is building. In addition to the relay travelling through key landmarks and neighbourhoods across the island, showcasing the spirit of unity and sport, several activities are planned.
Notably, the first activity, a beach clean-up at Long Beach Christ Church, is scheduled for Saturday, March 29, from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Also, on April 2, 2025, the Baton will visit the Garfield Sobers Sports Complex at 5 p.m., where persons practising, competing or exercising in the area will have the opportunity to take a picture with it.
The relay is a tradition that precedes every staging of the Commonwealth Games. The route is as follows:
- The journey begins at 10:00 a.m. at State House, where the Baton will depart and make its way down Government Hill. The route will then follow the flow of traffic up Government Hill, passing the Springer Memorial and Charles F. Broome Schools. Continuing along Howells Cross Road, the Baton will pass the Barbados Community College before heading towards The Belle and My Lords Hill.
- The relay will proceed along this route, passing Belmont Primary School and the former National Sports Council’s site. Runners will then make their way to the Welches Post Office junction and head towards the lights at the Welches, Government Hill, and Tweedside Road Junction. The route then takes the Baton towards the Nita Barrow roundabout, where it will loop past the gates of State House again before heading towards Pine Hill Road and St. Winifred’s School.
- Turning onto Pine Plantation Road, the relay will proceed to the lights at Pine East-West Boulevard, passing Irving Wilson School and The Ann Hill School, as well as the Caribbean Examinations Council. The Baton will then move towards the Upper Collymore Rock junction, continuing along Upper Collymore Rock and Wildey Road, passing Wildey Mall, Chefette Restaurants, and Luther Thorne Primary School.
- The journey continues towards BET Hill, passing Carter’s General Store and up to the roundabout. Runners will circle the roundabout and head down the hill to the Sagicor entrance of the Gymnasium Complex. Turning left at the junction, the route will pass the Aquatic and Tennis Centres. Finally, the relay will turn right, follow the traffic flow, and make the first right to finish in the Olympic Centre’s car park.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to support the runners and cyclists as the King’s Baton Relay travels through parts of the island. Witness a moment of sporting tradition and community spirit.
